DID YOU KNOW...?
Speaking of chestnuts roasting on an open fire, have you ever seen an American chestnut tree? The American chestnut once filled forests across Georgia and the eastern United States, often reaching 80 to 100 feet tall! Some grew even taller, with trunks so wide they were called the redwoods of the East. In the early 1900s, a fungal disease called chestnut blight arrived on imported chestnut trees and spread quickly. It killed an estimated three to four billion American chestnuts, including those that once grew in Gwinnett County. Now newly planted trees are barely able to grow before succumbing to the fungus, though researchers are working on resistant varieties!

Coffee with Council meets tomorrow, Saturday, December 13 at 8am at 45 South, 45 South Peachtree Street! It is an informal monthly gathering where residents can sit with council members, ask questions, and stay connected to what is happening in Norcross.

Bourbon with Bruce
Bourbon with Bruce at Carolee’s, 27 Holcomb Bridge Road, is Thursday, December 18 from 6-9pm! Eight years ago, it started when Bruce Smith brought a bottle to keep a friend company while his wife shopped at Carolee’s. They sat for three hours, sipping bourbon, talking, laughing, and wishing moments like that happened more often. Now, every December the week before Christmas, Bruce welcomes anyone of age to stop in, sample some bourbon, do a little shopping, and share some holiday cheer.
