Sonia Lopez
Young Norcross Written Submission:
“My name is Sonia Lopez and my goals on City Council are to represent all residents who live, work, and play in Norcross, and to help with the Buford Highway Master Plan, making allies with community activists to make sure we have strategic growth from our projects, while keeping our local natural scenery that makes us unique. Also, I want to attract more investment through projects like a Cultural and Arts Center that can attract tourism and serve our youth through classes in art, music, modern, and folkloric dance. There are fewer limitations when we think outside the box!”
COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Mt. Carmel UMC Pumpkin Patch
The Mt. Carmel UMC Pumpkin Patch is back! Come see us every day from 10a-7p to find a pumpkin (and snap a few cute fall photos while you're here). We have Saturday morning story time each week at 10a along with a fun and low-key Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat on October 22 at 4p!
Recycle & Clean Up Day
Recycle & Clean Up Day is tomorrow, Saturday, October 14 from 8a-12p at Norcross Public Works (345 Lively Ave.). Stop by to drop off your electronics for recycling, paper for shredding, gently used medical equipment, tennis shoes (in any condition), and more! Click here for a complete list of accepted items.
Fall Funfest & Food Drive
The 2nd Annual Fall Funfest & Food Drive will be this Sunday, October 15, from 3-6p in Thrasher Park. Hosted by Impact Norcross of Perimeter Church, the event will feature a tractor-pulled hayride, inflatables, outdoor games, crafts, face painting, and food. It is also a food drive for the Norcross Library Food Pantry, so please bring an item or two to share. (Apple sauce cups/pouches, cereal, mac and cheese/oatmeal cups, cereal, etc.)
Ladies Night: Bless Your Neighbor
A special “Bless Your Neighbor” Ladies’ Night takes place on Wednesday, October 18. It will include making meals for local foster and adoptive families and then spending time together eating food and hanging out! No need to bring food with you. Each host will provide drinks and snacks. Instead, consider bringing a donation of toilet paper, paper towels, or a door-dash gift card for the foster and adoptive families. More information here.
Livable Centers Initiative & Comprehensive Plan
Thank you to everyone who was able to complete the city's Comprehensive Plan and LCI surveys. Survey results can be found here, and be sure to join us on October 19 at the Norcross Cultural Arts & Community Center (10 College St.) for an Open House, which is the last day for public input on the Comprehensive Plan. Click here to learn more!
Pedal Norcross
Pedal Norcross Group Ride and Bike Festival is next weekend on October 21 from 3-6p and will kick off in Skin Alley near Social Fox Brewing! They are still in need of volunteers, so if interested, contact lldemaris15@gmail.com. Student volunteers are also welcome to volunteer and collect service hours.
Gene Ramsay Cemetery Tour
Resident historian Gene Ramsay is leading a Mt. Carmel UMC Cemetery Tour on Sunday, October 29th at 2p - rain or shine! (If the weather is bad we will move into the Sanctuary.)
