(Special Edition) Norcross Email Extravaganza Vol. 200!!
Did you know...?
It's the 200th episode of this weekly email! That means we've been sending these for almost four years, if you can believe it. To celebrate, we'll make this a *special edition* with a little history, some thoughts about the email, and a giveaway.
What even is Young Norcross?!
Let's have Thad Thompson tell the story... "It was the fall of 2015, and a group of people who didn’t know each other got together for a pancake breakfast. (It was really good by the way!) After breakfast, we were talking about all of the young families spread around town that weren’t connected and how amazing it would be to bring everyone together. We thought having a kickball team that played against other towns like Duluth could be an amazing way to get this group together. We wanted to look to the past to gain knowledge for this group of the future. Norcross at one time was famous for our baseball and our semi pro team (Imagine Savanah Bananas today), so I thought about the logo that was a Y and N it hit me Young Norcross. This could be a group that brings the final piece to this perfect town!"
So what's with this email?
That crew had a group text for awhile, and then we decided we needed a broader form of communication. I started sending a monthly email, which has now grown to almost 500 people in the Historic Norcross area.
We joke that it's for "the young and young at heart" in Historic Old Norcross (Lord knows I'm quickly aging out of the young category), and it's really just a community-driven way to share info. We hope that anyone in the area will join and participate in the email! If you ever have something helpful (an event, housing info, a tip) you'd like to share with the community, just send it to this email address.
Answers to Questions I Get Sometimes...
This has become a favorite hobby of mine, and I plan for it to always be a hobby (I'll never charge for an ad). A hobby also means it will have type-os and not always be perfect.
I know this could be a lot prettier with a template or a design, but I think I'll always just keep it to simple text and my dorky "Did you know..." headlines. Hope that's alright. (Is the text too small though or is it ok?)
I love when you guys send us info to include! Please please do that! Just send by Thursday morning to be included.
People can sign up for the email by emailing us at youngnorcross@gmail.com and saying they want to be added or by using this sign-up link which is always at the bottom of these emails.
The 200th Email Giveaway!
To celebrate the 200th email, we'll be giving away a gift basket from the downtown merchants worth $200! To enter, you can do one of two things (deadline is next Friday):
Option 1: Send me a family photo and introduction for a future Meet the Neighbors section. See the bottom of this email for an example. This is open to any one of you reading. I wish I had one of these every email! (if you've done it already, please reintroduce yourself, as we've got new people on the list).
Option 2: Forward this email to someone who you think should join. (BCC youngnorcross@gmail.com so we know to count it as an entry).
And now, your regularly scheduled email...

Meet Your Neighbors
Meet Callie and David Murray! Callie is the one who writes this email and is currently talking in third-person. She is in sales/marketing, and David is in operations for Boosterthon. Their three girls (Wells 11, Charlie 10, and Marin 7) are usually trying to sell stuff they make in the park. Callie and David are sorry about that in advance. They lived in Georgetown Park for seven years and now live in the little white house by Thrasher Park that has the "tacky Christmas bar" on the porch in December (also sorry in advance). You may not recognize the kids in this photo because it's a few years old and Marin is usually only wearing a bathing suit. They hope you'll send in your own Meet the Neighbors intro so they can stop introducing themselves.
